Message from our new Principal
I am delighted to have been appointed as the new Principal at IES Breckland. From my first day as Assistant Principal, I have been extremely impressed with the students, staff and wider community and would consider the school to be most welcoming.
I have inherited a school in a very positive place; rated as Ofsted ‘good’, steadily improving student outcomes and oversubscribed for the last three years.
I have been teaching since 1988, initially as a teacher of physical education, and have progressed through the ranks of Head of PE, Director of Sport, Assistant Principal, Vice Principal and Acting Principal.
My vision for the school is simple; I would like IES Breckland to be firmly embedded at the heart of the local community and to become a school which the students, parents/carers, staff and local community continue to be proud of. I will do all I can to successfully lead the school through future Ofsted inspections and continue the journey to become an outstanding school, while in doing so, ensure the students receive the best possible education preparing them for their post-16 pathways.
I will be joined by two new Assistant Principals, Mr Gower and Mrs Longhurst, and with the support of the senior leadership team, will be introducing new initiatives to help achieve our vision. I would like to launch regular parents’ drop-in sessions to increase communication, and a community focus group where we can explore strategies to strengthen the links between the school and the local community. I would welcome any suggestions; your feedback is essential. Equally important are the views of the students, so we will be increasing the frequency of surveys and expand the remit of the student executive.
Finally, I would like to thank the school staff for their support during the last few months and SABRES Educational Trust and the Governing Body for giving me this opportunity. The future is very exciting!
