The transition from primary to secondary school is important in the lives of children and their families. At IES Breckland we have developed a robust system to ensure all students will have a successful transition and it is designed to help students and their parents and carers minimise any anxieties. Our transition days are on Wednesday 17th July to Friday 19th July 2019 and we are looking forward to meeting all of the new students and starting them off on their journey where they “Aim, Believe, Achieve” by offering them an education which stretches and challenges.
The 3 day induction for the new year 7 students will commence on Wednesday 17th July and new students are required to be at the school by no later than 8.15am. They will be met by staff from the school gate and will be taken to the school hall for registration into their induction groups. Attendance records over this period will be reported directly back to your child’s current primary school daily, if a child is unwell please report the absence to us on 01842 819501. A tailored timetable has been put together for all new students in order to allow them to get used to the new routines and school organisation with great ease, develop new friendships and improve their self-esteem and confidence. The school day ends at 3pm and new students can be collected from the school gate. Please make appropriate arrangements to ensure that your child is on time and is aware of their daily travel arrangements. All students arriving for transition will need to wear their current primary uniform.
If your child requires a school lunch it will cost £2.25 per day otherwise please come with a packed lunch. Children receiving Free School Meals will not be charged. In order for us to cater for the new students it is important that we are made aware of any food allergies.
Parent Information Evening
On Wednesday 17th July we will be holding an Information Evening from 5.30pm to 6.30pm and it is important that the children and their parents and carers attend. They will be able to meet the Leadership team, staff and the student’s mentors. All students will receive an information pack which contains school policies and forms that need to be completed and returned to the school office. It is essential that we hold all current information about your child, including contact details and email address as this is especially useful for direct communication via ParentMail and for you to access your child’s progress on Go4Schools. There will be further information given about transport, music tuition and free school meals.
Ordering and collection of Uniform
We will be holding a fitting event on Thursday 25th of April (3.30pm-6pm) when orders are to be placed for year 7 uniform. During the transition period, Thursday 18th (a-l) and Friday 19th (m-z) July, there are two Uniform Collection afternoons 3pm to 4pm where parents and carers can pick up and pay for the uniform. We do not accept cheques and take only cash but we do offer the facility of paying online via ParentPay which will enable Parents and Carers to pay off the amount owing over a few months.

Free School Meals
Students who are attending a Norfolk Primary School will need to reapply to Suffolk County Council for Free School Meals. Further information on how to apply is available from our Free School Meals page. Do apply online as not only can you save £2,200 on dinners during your child’s education at IES Breckland, but in addition the school will receive nearly £1,000 pupil premium funding per annum which is directly channelled towards your child’s education.
