Starting Secondary School
The transition from primary to secondary school is a hugely significant stage in a child’s life and, therefore, also in the lives of their parents/carers. We understand this. What’s more, we are currently in the midst of an unprecedented global crisis and so we also understand that for current Year 6 students and their parents/carers this transition may feel overwhelming.
Students who are starting Year 7 at our school in September 2020 will continue to receive information (via this website, via letter, and/or via their respective current Headteachers), which explains the strategies we have in place. We will use these lines of communication to share key dates as and when we are able to decide them. If you have any questions about the transition process, please contact email@example.com or Mr Gower (Assistant Principal) firstname.lastname@example.org
We have created a private Facebook group (linked to our main school page) which is specifically for the parents and carers of those joining us as Year 7 students in September 2020. We regularly post information, photos, videos introducing key staff members, and answers to questions which are posed. If you would like to join this group then please just click on this link: Year 7 September 2020 and you will be prompted to answer three simple questions.
There are lots of really great resources our there to help support young people with the move to secondary school. We think this page on the BBC Bitesize website is a good example of that: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zj2grj6.
In order to help with the Year 6 transition to IES Breckland, we have arranged a ‘Meet-the-Mentor’ online Zoom session in which parents/carers/pupils have an opportunity to meet the Year 7 mentors. The session is on Tuesday 14 July at 6pm.
We have created this video for Year 6 pupils joining us in September. We hope it will give you a sense of your new school environment. We look forward to being able to welcome you in person soon.
Further details are available from the Travel Information page. Please note that Suffolk County Council Transport have now introduced an opt-in process and the deadline is 31 May 2020.
