‘The Edge’ is intended, over time, to develop and accredit the life skills and attributes which employers are telling us they need from their employees. They are: leadership, organisation, initiative, resilience and communication. ‘The Edge’ runs alongside students’ academic successes, and recognises what the students can ‘do’ as well as what they ‘know’.

In order to gain the qualification at ‘Apprentice’, ‘Graduate’ or ‘Masters’ level, students need to complete a range of activities from an approved list.  The activities are many and varied, and can be undertaken in lesson time, in extra-curricular clubs, or outside the school environment. For Year 7, the scheme is launched at the ‘Apprentice’ level, with the opportunity to progress to ‘Graduate’ and ‘Masters’ levels during years 10 and 11.

The students themselves manage their progression through the scheme. They use a specially designed on-line application, with mentors and Heads of House providing an oversight, and awarding credits.
